A native of Amos, Mtre. Marc Lemay was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1975. He notably practiced criminal and social law at the Community legal centre of Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Amos and Rouyn-Noranda from 1975 to 2004. From 2002 to 2004, he also held the position of President of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue Bar.

Before his political career, Mtre. Lemay distinguished himself as a cycling artisan at the regional, national and international levels. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Olympic Committee. At the international level, he was President of the Mountain Bike Commission of the International Cycling Union. During all these years, he held several positions within bodies related to Canadian sport and international cycling. In April 2011, he was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame.

From 2004 to 2011, Mtre. Marc Lemay represented the district of Abitibi-Témiscamingue at the House of Commons. He was the spokesman of his party for Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada.
